Open Air, Full Systems: A Summer Training Day in South Korea

Shade nets, a big LED screen, a complete demonstration system, and a seated crowd of local audio professionals — our South Korean partner’s July training class took the classroom outside.

Not every classroom has walls. In July, our South Korean partner staged a summer open-air training class that traded a conference room for an outdoor venue — shade nets overhead, string lights between the trusses, a full ZSOUND demonstration system rigged on site, and rows of local audio professionals who came to spend the day inside a sound system instead of in front of one.

A Classroom Under the Shade Nets

The format was a full-day seminar for local audio professionals — engineers, rental crews, and installation teams — arranged around the venue’s permanent demonstration setup. Sessions ran from the LED screen at the front of the space, with the audience close enough to the loudspeakers that every concept taught could be immediately illustrated on the system behind the presenter. Open-air venues are honest teachers: with no room reflections to hide behind, what the system does is exactly what the audience hears, which makes it an ideal environment for training on system behavior.

The teaching went beyond product introductions. On the big screen, participants watched measurement software trace transfer function curves in real time — the same measurement-based tuning methodology ZSOUND has taught since its training program began in 2009, and the foundation of our authorized Smaart training services in China. Seeing a filter decision appear as a curve on screen, and then hearing it through the system a moment later, is the kind of cause-and-effect moment that spec sheets simply cannot deliver. This is the interactive, hands-on class format ZSOUND adopted in 2016 — smaller distances, more live demonstration, students driving — and it translates naturally to an outdoor stage.

Every ZSOUND training class, wherever it is held, rests on the same conviction: a sound system is only as good as the person behind the console. Distributors send their engineers so they can specify and configure systems with confidence; rental companies send their technicians so setup gets faster and smarter on show day. A complete demonstration system on site — the way our partner set it up for this July class — lets attendees verify every claim against their own ears before they ever write a purchase order. That is what turns a product presentation into a training class, and a curious audience into confident operators.

Growing the Community in Korea

South Korea’s pro-audio scene is demanding, well-trained, and quick to adopt measurement-driven workflows — which makes it exactly the kind of market where ZSOUND’s knowledge-sharing approach fits. This July open-air class is part of a broader program: together with partners worldwide, ZSOUND has staged more than 200 training classes with nearly 5,000 trainees, from foundational courses in Guangzhou to overseas sessions in India, Thailand, and Mongolia. The goal never changes, whether the room is air-conditioned or open to the summer sky — by the end of the day, theory has to survive contact with a decibel meter.

A Program Built Since 2009

This July class did not appear out of nowhere. ZSOUND’s training program began in 2009 and has run continuously since, with offline classes staged by our technical team in city after city and online sessions carrying the same curriculum to engineers who cannot travel. Core courses span the Smaart measurement platform, sound-field modeling with EASE Focus, fundamental mixing theory and console operation, and both digital and analog consoles. In 2017, ZSOUND became officially authorized by Rational Acoustics to conduct Smaart sales and training services in China — a formal seal on the measurement-first methodology that classes like this Korean session put into practice. For attendees in the open-air venue, that lineage mattered: the material on screen was not a borrowed seminar, but a curriculum refined across more than 200 classes and nearly 5,000 trainees, adapted by a local partner who knows exactly what Korean engineers face on their own shows.
