ZSOUND Pro Audio · Training Spotlight — India

Where It Began: ZSOUND’s Level-I Pro Audio Classroom in Hyderabad, January 2015

Three full-time days, a founder at the whiteboard, measurement software on the projector, and a certificate co-appraised by the Telangana Sound Light & Video Association — the January 2015 Hyderabad class that carried ZSOUND’s training program abroad for the first time.

Every program has a first step, and for ZSOUND’s international training that step landed in Hyderabad, India. From January 13 to 15, 2015, ZSOUND staged a three-day, full-time Classroom Training and Workshop on Professional Audio LEVEL-I — the first edition of what has since grown into a worldwide training tradition spanning more than 200 classes and nearly 5,000 trainees. The tagline printed on the event banner asked the question the whole class was built to answer: what’s your choice for line array system?

Three Days, Full-Time, Level-I

This was not an evening seminar. The LEVEL-I format ran three consecutive, full-time days in a Hyderabad conference hall — a deliberate deep-dive rather than a product roadshow. Seats were filled with local audio professionals and students, notebooks open, laptops out, a video crew documenting the sessions. The program was organized with our local partner led by Nitesh Ahuja, and the course was appraised by the Telangana Sound Light & Video Association — a formal stamp of local industry recognition that reflected the seriousness of both the curriculum and the audience it drew.

Taught by the Founder Himself

The course instructor was Mr. Bob — ZSOUND founder Zhou Xiaogu — teaching in person, microphone in hand, for all three days. That choice says a great deal about how ZSOUND treats training: the person who designs the systems stood at the front of the room to explain them. Founder-led teaching means the audience hears system philosophy straight from its source — why the line array range is designed the way it is, what each model was built to solve, and where the honest limits of a system lie. For the Hyderabad attendees, the founder’s presence turned a Level-I course into something closer to a workshop with the factory itself.

The teaching moved between three registers. At the whiteboard, line array behavior was sketched and argued out step by step, next to a spec display for the ZSOUND LA212 two-way line array element. On the projector, Smaart measurement software traced frequency responses and transfer functions in real time, turning theory into curves the class could interrogate. And in the room itself, ZSOUND loudspeakers stood stacked and ready, so every claim made at the front could be checked against the system at the back. Theory, measurement, and listening — the same three-legged method that ZSOUND classes still use today.

Long before ZSOUND was formally authorized by Rational Acoustics to sell and train on Smaart in China, the Hyderabad class was already teaching with measurement on screen. The message to attendees was practical: stop debating sound by memory and start verifying it with data. Measure the room, read the transfer function, make the alignment decision, and confirm it by ear. For many of the Indian engineers and students in the room, these three days were their first structured exposure to measurement-based system tuning — and the start of habits many of them still practice on shows today.

Graduates left with a Level-I certificate attesting three days of full-time classroom training and workshop study — signed by the course instructor and appraised by the Telangana Sound Light & Video Association. More importantly, they left as the first members of what became a global alumni community. The Hyderabad class proved the model that the rest of the decade built on: bring the founder’s engineering culture, a complete system, and real measurement tools to a local market, and partner with the local industry association to deliver it. India stayed on the itinerary — from this Level-I classroom in Hyderabad to the hands-on VCX + SW218 system days that followed — and the program that walked out the door in January 2015 has not stopped traveling since.
